O'Fallon Park was one of the last of Denver's Mountain Parks to be acquired. In 1938, Martin J. O'Fallon donated the 860-acre property in Bear Creek Canyon to the City & County of Denver for "the use and pleasure of the people." This unusual quadrangular stone fireplace has been a familiar, if mysterious, landmark ever since. Not just a picnic structure, it also qualifies as a monument, thanks to the plaque mounted on its side above the north-facing firebox.
