![]() The Discovery of Gold Monument | |
|
This monument seems to give the Cherokees--and Louis Ralston-- credit for the discovery of gold along Ralston Creek in 1850. When the Monuments section was established in February 2007, this was designated a "Mystery Monument" just for fun. As of October 2007, two email messages have identified this monument, which was placed at Inspiration Point Park near 52nd and Sheridan at the edge of Denver and Jefferson Co. Inspiration Point was a "preview" point-- a place to get an overview for the trip to Denver's Mountain Parks to the west. This location still displays a magnificent view of the foothills. Find a tour guide to one of the "circle drives" promoted in 1916 at the Mountain Parks History website, or visit Inspiration Point Then and Now.
The plaque on the stone reads: THIS TABLET IS THE ONE MILE NORTH OF THIS POINT
